Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus and Green Bay Packaging, Arkansas Kraft Division received the 2020 National Council of Workforce Education (NCWE) Noncredit Exemplary Program Award during the 2021 NCWE Conference in Tucson, Ariz.

The award is in recognition of a more than decade-long collaboration between ATU-Ozark and Green Bay Packaging that has provided more than 1,000 employees from more than 60 Arkansas companies with relevant electrical, mechanical and instrumentation skills through a facility in Morrilton.

Bruce Sikes, ATU-Ozark chancellor, and Justin Smith, ATU-Ozark chief business and community outreach officer, accepted the award on behalf of ATU-Ozark Campus and Green Bay Packaging. The presentation was delayed one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“NCWE is a leader in providing colleges and universities with up-to-date trends, data and training in workforce development,” said Smith. “We are very humbled to accept this award and it could not be possible without the outstanding individuals at Green Bay Packaging. There are many people across Arkansas Tech and Green Bay Packaging who work to make this training relevant, affordable and available to companies across Arkansas. It has developed into a premier location for hands-on skills training for area employers.”

ATU-Ozark’s representatives made a presentation about the award-winning program during one of the breakout sessions at the conference. The presentation included shared best practices about how other colleges and industries may be able to replicate this type of partnership and training in their own locations.
