Local playwrights will put their work on display during “Yearning and Returning,” a series of five short plays and four monologues that will be performed on the Arkansas Tech University campus this week.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. nightly on Thursday, April 6, Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8, at the Techionery Theatre, 1502 N. El Paso Ave. in Russellville.
Admission will be $8 for general admission and $5 for those with a valid ATU identification card.
“New plays are important to the artistic health of a community,” said Dr. David J. Eshelman, associate professor of communication and director of the ATU theatre program. “It is important that we not only stage plays, but also write them. If we do not write for and about our community, nobody is going to do it for us.”

Short plays
- “Lucas and Nellie,” by Dr. Stanley Lombardo, professor of English, directed by Robert Warner of Little Rock
- “Madam Turmeric’s Fortune Telling Emporium,” by Skylar Wierman of Russellville, directed by Carson Hawkins of Clarksville
- “Poz,” by Justin Wilkinson of Hector, directed by Glen Poole of Fort Smith
- “Why Wild West,” by Dr. David J. Eshelman, director of the ATU theatre program, directed by Stephanie Freeman, Visiting Instructor of Theatre
- “Truly Abbigale,” by Chloe Charton and Breanna Peel, students at Hector High School, directed by Jenava Harris, ATU theatre arts technical supervisor
Monologues
- “Bicycle Heist,” written and performed by Abbey Allen, ATU alumna, film by Caly Allen of Conway and Skylar Cox of Bella Vista
- “Coach Donnie,” written and performed by Nate Bartlett, ATU alumnus, film by Caly Allen and Skylar Cox
- “How to Be a Hero,” written and performed by Tanner Williams of Pearcy, directed by Nathan Yzaguirre of Hot Springs, film by Yushia Thao of Dardanelle
- “A Proper Goodbye,” written and performed by Morgan Cheramie of Farmington, directed by Holly Willmon of Bauxite
