Wonder Boys Win Second Consecutive Event

Arkansas Tech University’s men’s golf team earned a four-stroke victory among a field of 11 teams at the Henderson State University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Hot Springs Country Club.

It was the second consecutive team title for Tech, which won the Northeastern State University Classic Sept. 19-20.

The Wonder Boys completed the 54-hole HSU Invitational with a team total of 913. Fellow Great American Conference member Southwestern Oklahoma State University was the runner-up at 917.

Arkansas Tech hopes the outcome was a harbinger of future events. Hot Springs Country Club will host the GAC Championships during the spring portion of the 2016-17 season.

Austin Smith was the Wonder Boys’ top performer on Monday and Tuesday. He returned scores of 72-70-70 for a 4-under par total of 212. He finished in second place, one stroke behind individual champion Austin Harmon of Central Baptist College.

Ryan Spurlock (T-10th, 71-75-72-218), Luke Cornett (T-15th, 73-73-76-222), Putter Srinoon (T-21st, 75-75-74-224) and Shawn Tsai (T-31st, 78-72-77-227) also contributed to Arkansas Tech’s team victory.

Tech’s Bryce Burke (T-10th, 73-73-72-218) competed at the HSU Invitational as an individual.

The Wonder Boys will compete in the Missouri Western State University Holiday Inn Express Classic at St. Joseph, Mo., on Oct. 10-11.
