Wonder Boys Win in West Virginia

Arkansas Tech University began its 2018-19 men’s golf season the same way it hopes to end the year — with a win at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.Va.

The Wonder Boys posted a 54-hole team score of 878 to finish first among a field of 23 teams at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.

Tech’s season-opening win came at the same facility that will host the 2019 NCAA Division II Championships May 19-23.

Shawn Tsai led the Wonder Boys to victory by claiming the individual title. He fired rounds of 68-68-76 for a total of 212 and a three-stroke win.

Kellen Gray (T-8th, 75-77-72-224), Trevor Brunson (T-35th, 77-80-75-232), Jackson Marseilles (T-57th, 74-81-81-236) and Austin Gean also contributed to Tech’s team title. Gean shot 68-68 during the final two rounds after not recording a score in round one.

Head coach Luke Calcatera’s team will return to action Sept. 17-18 at the Northeastern State Classic in Muskogee, Okla.
