Wonder Boys Win Season Opener 114-49

Seven Arkansas Tech players reached double figures in scoring and the Wonder Boys won their basketball season opener for a fourth consecutive year by defeating the Ozark Christian College Ambassadors 114-49 at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Monday night.

Nationally 13th-ranked Arkansas Tech (1-0) closed the first half on an 18-2 run to take an insurmountable 53-22 lead at halftime.

Two newcomers led the Wonder Boys in scoring. Johnie Davis, a transfer from Gulf Coast Community College, was 10-of-16 from the field and finished with 22 points. Ricky Allen, a freshman from Little Rock, scored 14 points, dished out five assists and made five steals.

Matt Haney made three 3-pointers and notched 13 points. James Giles (photographed), James Causey, Jared Williamson and Jeremy Dunbar added 10 points apiece.

Arkansas Tech had 26 assists against just eight turnovers. The Wonder Boys shot 56 percent from the field and made 13-of-33 (39 percent) from 3-point range.

Drew Hanson led Ozark Christian with 15 points. The Ambassadors made 29 turnovers.

The Wonder Boys will visit Drury University for a 7 p.m. game in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
