Wonder Boys Take Two From Wildcats

Arkansas Tech swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from the Abilene Christian University Wildcats at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas, on Saturday afternoon.

The Wonder Boys (2-1) took game one on Saturday 6-2 behind a complete game pitching performance by Aaron Luchterhand, who allowed just one earned run over seven innings of work. Luchterhand (1-0) struck out five and walked none while scattering seven hits.

Tech’s Nate Wilder and Thomas Biocic both drove in two runs in the victory, while Michael Rezin and Madison Beaird had two hits apiece. Cesar Abreu scored two runs for the Wonder Boys, who took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning and never surrendered it.

Arkansas Tech completed its Saturday sweep by out-slugging Abilene Christian for a 17-14 victory in the nightcap.

Abreu, Beaird, Landon Sullins and Wilder all had two hits in game two. Wilder drove in four runs. Abreu, Beaird and Drew Stanton had three RBIs apiece. Both of Sullins’ hits were doubles and he drove in two.

Gino Spratley (1-0) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief for the Wonder Boys and was credited with the win. Wilder worked a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning for his first save of the season.

Arkansas Tech and Abilene Christian will conclude their season-opening four-game series with a single 9-inning game at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5. The Wildcats won game one of the series 12-10 on Friday.
