Zach Skelton’s complete-game pitching performance and production up-and-down the lineup lifted Arkansas Tech University to a 9-3 Great American Conference baseball win over Southern Nazarene University at Tech Field in Russellville on Friday night.
Skelton (2-1) limited the Crimson Storm to three runs on six hits over nine innings. He struck out six and needed just 97 pitches to polish off SNU.
Each member of the Wonder Boys’ batting order had at least one hit or one run batted in. Josh Watkins was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Dylan McDearmon had two hits, one of which was a home run, and two RBIs. Marcus Wilson drove in two runs for Tech.
Crimson Storm starting pitcher Mason Pinion (0-5) was charged with six runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits over five and one-third innings. SNU’s defense committed four errors.
All three Crimson Storm runs came via the long ball. Mike Descisciolo clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning and Dillon Feland delivered a solo shot in the top of the eighth.
Tech and SNU will meet for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, at Tech Field. Admission will be free and open to the public.
