Wonder Boys Split at Missouri Southern

Arkansas Tech and Missouri Southern split a high-scoring baseball doubleheader at Joplin, Mo., on Thursday.

Missouri Southern (1-1) captured game one 20-15, and the Wonder Boys (3-3) took the nightcap 10-8.

The two teams combined for 51 base hits in the doubleheader, which was Arkansas Tech’s first road trip of the 2011 season.

Matt Johnson and Madison Beaird both hit home runs for the Wonder Boys in their game two victory. Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Beaird finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

Colt Loehrs added two hits for Arkansas Tech.

Zach Thomas was the winning pitcher for the Wonder Boys in the nightcap. He allowed seven runs, four of which were earned, on six hits in five innings of work.

Arkansas Tech will host games with Fort Hays State and Southern Indiana at Tech Field in Russellville this weekend.
