Research by national website Hero Sports has uncovered that Arkansas Tech University has the highest all-time winning percentage among college football programs in Arkansas.
The Wonder Boys’ all-time winning percentage of .599 puts Tech ahead of the University of Central Arkansas (.592), the University of Arkansas (.590) and every other college or university in the Natural State that fields an intercollegiate football program.
Arkansas Tech began its football program in 1911. The Wonder Boys were Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference champions in 1931, 1935, 1939, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1954, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1964, 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1994. They won the Gulf South Conference championship in 1999, and Tech has made five national playoff appearances (1971, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2009).
Recent Arkansas Tech teams have added to the winning tradition. The Wonder Boys were 8-4 overall in 2017, giving Tech three consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2004-06. ATU has earned a postseason bowl invitation two of the last three years.
The 104th season of Arkansas Tech football will begin on Thursday, Aug. 30, when the Wonder Boys visit Southern Arkansas for a 6 p.m. GAC contest at Wilkins Stadium in Magnolia. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will provide live coverage.
