Wonder Boys Look to Start New Streak

It won’t count in the Gulf South Conference baseball standings when Arkansas Tech hosts the Ouachita Baptist Tigers at Tech Field tonight (Wednesday, April 6), but it will count as a chance for the Wonder Boys to start a new winning streak.

First pitch for the non-conference contest is set for 6 p.m. No admission will be charged.

Arkansas Tech (19-13) had won four consecutive games and eight of its last nine before dropping the final two games of a GSC series against Southern Arkansas over the weekend.

Included in the Wonder Boys’ recent good fortunes was a three-game conference sweep over Ouachita Baptist March 19-20. Arkansas Tech won by scores of 7-5, 4-2 and 9-2 as part of a 6-0 start to GSC play for the Wonder Boys.

Ouachita Baptist (14-19) took 2-of-3 games from its arch rival — Henderson State — last weekend.

The Tigers have a team batting average of .291 and a team earned run average of 6.47.

Arkansas Tech leads the GSC West Division in team batting average this season (.337). The Wonder Boys’ pitching staff has a cumulative earned run average of 6.03.

Tech will return to conference play this weekend when it hosts Christian Brothers University for a three-game set at Tech Field.

The Wonder Boys are 7-2 in GSC action and tied for second place in the GSC West Division.

First pitch for a doubleheader between Arkansas Tech and CBU on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The two sides will play a single contest at 1 p.m. Sunday.

All three games during the Tech-CBU series will be broadcast in the Arkansas River Valley by radio station KCAB 980 AM.
