Wonder Boys Hang On For 38-31 Win

A defensive stand in the final two minutes allowed Arkansas Tech University to secure a 38-31 win over the University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils in Great American Conference play at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field in Russellville on Saturday night.

UAM’s final possession of the game reached the Arkansas Tech 24-yard line with less than three minutes remaining and the Wonder Boys leading by seven points. A false start against the Boll Weevils (1-2) followed by two incomplete passes brought up fourth-and-14 from the Tech 29-yard line with 1:30 left.

After a UAM timeout, Arkansas Tech linebacker Seth Culp clinched the Wonder Boys’ victory by breaking up a Cole Sears pass intended for Wesley Bullock.

Arkansas Tech (2-1) took over on downs and ran out the clock to remain undefeated in home games against the Boll Weevils since 2001.

Tech quarterback Ty Reasnor completed 11-of-25 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

Jabyes Cross, Justin Bailey and Luke Starks made one touchdown reception apiece for the Wonder Boys, while Kristian Thompson and Bryan Allen both recorded a touchdown run.

Culp led all players with 15 tackles.

UAM’s Imani Riley rushed 30 times for 140 yards and a touchdown.

Arkansas Tech will visit Southern Arkansas University for a 6 p.m. GAC contest at Wilkins Stadium in Magnolia on Saturday, Sept. 24. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have live coverage.
