Wonder Boys Finish Top-5 at Durant

Arkansas Tech used a sizzling second round to finish tied for fifth among 12 men’s golf teams at the Texoma Championship on Monday and Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys returned pedestrian team scores of 313 in the first round and 314 in the final round, but in between they lit up Chickasaw Pointe Golf Resort with a 297 in the second round.

Graham Rucker keyed Arkansas Tech’s second-round surge by shooting a 3-under par 69. Rucker carded a 77 in the first round and a 79 in the final round. His 54-hole total of 225 was good for a share of seventh place.

Jack Garrett (T-12th, 74-74-79-227), Slade Hames (35th, 83-78-76-237), Parker Hale (T-36th, 80-76-82-238) and Jason Purdy (T-55th, 82-87-80-249) also competed for Arkansas Tech in the event, which was hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla.

Oklahoma Christian blew the field away with a 54-hole score of 876. Cameron University was the runner-up, but the Aggies finished 30 strokes off the pace.

Vilhelm Bogstrand of Oklahoma Christian shot 69-71-72 for a 4-under total of 212 and a five-stroke victory in the individual standings.

The Wonder Boys will play in the TVA Credit Union Classic at Killen, Ala., Oct. 17-18.
