Austin Gean led Arkansas Tech University to a runner-up finish among a field of 10 men’s golf teams at the 2018 Great American Conference Championships.
Gean returned scores of 70-74-73 for a 1-over par total of 217 at Hot Springs Country Club’s Arlington Course to finish in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings. The event was played Sunday through Tuesday.
The Wonder Boys had team scores of 293-291-291. Their 54-hole total of 875 was 12 strokes behind Henderson State University, which became the first institution in any sport to win five consecutive GAC championships.
Shawn Tsai (T-13th, 76-71-73-220), Luke Cornett (T-18th, 72-72-78-222), Putter Srinoon (T-31st, 77-74-75-226) and Kellen Gray (36th, 75-83-70-228) also contributed to Arkansas Tech’s third consecutive men’s golf runner-up finish in the conference tournament.
The Wonder Boys will compete in the NCAA Midwest/Central Region Championships May 7-9 in Findlay, Ohio.
