Wonder Boys Finish 4th at Pitt State

A big day two improvement allowed the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys golf team to finish fourth in the season-opening Pittsburg State Invitational at par-72 Crestwood Country Club in Pittsburg, Kan.

Arkansas Tech followed up its first-round 304 team score on Monday with a score of 292 on Tuesday. The 12-stroke improvement pushed the Wonder Boys ahead of tournament host Pittsburg State and into fourth place in the final standings.

Slade Hames led Tech’s second-round charge with a 2-under par round of 70. His 36-hole score of 146 was good for solo seventh place.

Tech’s Parker Hale returned two scores of 74 for a 148 total and 11th place.

Jack Garrett (T-16th, 76-74-150), Graham Rucker (T-25th, 78-74-152) and Colton Dillard (T-42nd, 80-78-158) rounded out the Wonder Boys whose scores contributed to the team total.

Arkansas Tech’s Dillon Young (T-42nd, 78-80-158) competed as an individual.

Central Missouri won the team title with a two-day total of 581. The individual championship went to Washburn University’s Nate Hoeflin (69-71-140).

The Wonder Boys will return to competition Sept. 19-20 in the Bison Fall Classic at Stone Links Golf Course in North Little Rock.
