Wonder Boys Earn NCAA Tournament Bid

Arkansas Tech has earned an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The Wonder Boys (24-5), regular season champions of the Gulf South Conference West Division, will participate in the NCAA Division II South Regional beginning on Saturday, March 12.

The regional will be hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Arkansas Tech is the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Division II South Regional. The Wonder Boys will face fifth-seeded Benedict College (21-7) at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round.

No. 1 seed Alabama-Huntsville (26-4) will take on No. 8 seed Clark Atlanta (22-8), No. 2 seed Harding University (25-4) will face No. 7 seed Stillman (23-7) and No. 3 seed Rollins College (25-6) will tangle with No. 6 seed Florida Southern (22-8) in other first-round games at the NCAA Division II South Regional.

If Arkansas Tech wins on Saturday, it will play in the regional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The regional championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys are making their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

This is the longest streak of consecutive national tournament appearances for the Arkansas Tech men’s basketball program since head coach Sam Hindsman guided the Wonder Boys to seven consecutive NAIA National Tournament berths from 1950-56.

The champion of the NCAA Division II South Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight March 23-26 in Springfield, Mass.
