Arkansas Tech continued its steady climb up the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II top 25 men’s basketball poll by earning the No. 12 position in the rankings released on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Both Arkansas Tech basketball teams are ranked in their respective NCAA Division II top 25 polls this week (Golden Suns No. 5; Wonder Boys No. 12).
Among the 275 institutions that sponsor NCAA Division II men’s and women’s basketball, the only other schools that are ranked in both polls this week are Rollins College of Florida (Men 18th, Women 23rd) and Tarleton State of Texas (Men 25th, Women 19th).
It is the highest national ranking of the season for the Wonder Boys (19-3 overall, 10-0 Gulf South Conference), who have won 13 consecutive games.
Arkansas Tech was ranked No. 13 in the preseason national men’s basketball poll, but early-season losses at Drury University and West Georgia knocked the Wonder Boys from the rankings.
Tech returned to the national poll when it was ranked 23rd on Jan. 23. Since then, the Wonder Boys have moved up to No. 15 (Feb. 1), No. 14 (Feb. 8) and now No. 12.
Arkansas Tech is in sole possession of first place in the GSC West Division with four regular season games remaining.
The Wonder Boys won their first GSC West regular season crown last year. It was Arkansas Tech’s first regular season conference title in men’s basketball since capturing the final Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1994-95.
Tech will continue its pursuit of back-to-back GSC West titles when the Wonder Boys visit Southern Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 17. Tip-off at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center in Magnolia will be at 7:30 p.m.
The game can be heard on KWKK 100.9 FM. Click here to access an Internet stream of the broadcast.
The Wonder Boys will return home to host Delta State at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19.
Tickets will be available at the door. Those with a valid Tech identification card will be admitted free.
