R.J. Glasper scored 30 points to lead Arkansas Tech University to a 90-81 Great American Conference men’s basketball victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center in Weatherford, Okla., on Saturday.
Glasper was 9-of-21 from the field and 11-of-12 at the free throw line as the Wonder Boys (14-7 overall, 8-7 GAC) wrapped up a 1-1 road trip to Oklahoma.
“R.J. played his tail off,” said Chad Kline, ATU head coach. “I thought a lot of guys did. R.J. scored an efficient 30 points today. He’s growing right in front of us.”
Montrell Williams had 14 points and eight rebounds for Tech. Leonardo Edwards, returning from an injury that had kept him out of action since Jan. 6, matched his season high with 12 points. Edwards also grabbed seven rebounds.
Alex Brown added 11 points and six rebounds to help the Wonder Boys complete a season sweep of the Bulldogs.
Tech led 50-40 at halftime. The margin was still 10 points midway through the second half before a Zane King layup and a 3-pointer by Mason Cline pushed the Wonder Boys’ lead to 81-66 with 6:27 to go. Tech was able to cruise home from there.
Nick Shoemaker scored a season-high 20 points for SWOSU (3-18, 1-14), which suffered an 11th consecutive loss.
The Wonder Boys will host nationally-ranked Southern Nazarene University for a 7:30 p.m. GAC contest at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Thursday, Feb. 8.
Tickets ($5 adults/$3 students and senior citizens) will be available at the door. Faculty, staff and students with their valid ATU identification card will be admitted free of charge.
