Wonder Boys Drop Non-League Game to OBU

Ouachita Baptist rallied for seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys 15-10 in non-conference baseball at Tech Field in Russellville on Tuesday night.

Arkansas Tech had taken a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a Thomas Biocic RBI single and a balk that allowed Landon Sullins to come home with the go-ahead run.

The Wonder Boys’ advantage was short-lived. The Tigers scored all seven of their runs in the top of the ninth after two were out as they claimed a 15-9 lead.

Chris Reese’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth pulled Tech within 15-10, but OBU reliever Keegan Ghidotti got Sullins to hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game.

Biocic went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in for the Wonder Boys. Reese was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Sullins, Madison Beaird, Jonathan Finnegan, Scott Sammons and Cesar Abreu added two hits apiece.

Ouachita Baptist’s Tom Ward was 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Tiger relief pitcher Kurt Peppenhorst (3-2) was named the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out three over two and two-thirds innings.

Tech reliever Stephen Thompson (2-2) was saddled with the loss. He surrendered six runs, three of which were earned, on five hits over two innings. Thompson struck out five.

The Wonder Boys matched their season high with seven errors.
