Game One: Tech 9, OBU 8

Arkansas Tech relief pitcher Isaac Hale extinguished a last-chance rally by Oklahoma Baptist to preserve a 9-8 Wonder Boys’ victory on Friday.

Tech led 9-5 going to the bottom of the ninth inning, but a two-run home run by Matt Poulin followed by a solo shot from Brett Berghammer pulled the Bison within one run of the lead.

Hale emerged from the bullpen after the tying run reached base for Oklahoma Baptist with one out. He struck out Zane Gelphman and hit PJ Harris with a pitch to move the tying run into scoring position with two out.

Josh Timms then hit into a game-ending fielder’s choice and Hale collected his second save of 2018.

Korey Thompson was 3-for-4 and Mark Vaughn was 2-for-5 for the Wonder Boys. They both hit a home run and drove in three runs. Britt Stroth added a solo home run and Jake Harvey went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Tech starting pitcher Michael Mueller (3-3) was charged with five runs on eight hits in seven innings.
