Wonder Boys, Bisons Rained Out

Mother Nature brought an early end to the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys’ 2011 baseball regular season on Sunday.

The Wonder Boys and the Harding Bisons were scheduled to resume a suspended game at 11 a.m. Sunday and then play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon, but heavy rain in Russellville forced those games to be cancelled.

Gulf South Conference rules prohibit baseball teams from rescheduling rainouts for a later date, so there is no opportunity for Tech and Harding to try to reschedule the games.

Harding defeated Arkansas Tech 8-6 in game one of the series on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams fell one out short of completing five innings of game two, so it is not an official game, neither team is credited with a win or a loss and all statistics from that contest are stricken from the records. It is as if it never happened.

Harding led 6-2 when the game was suspended with two out in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Arkansas Tech concludes the regular season with an overall record of 29-17 and a GSC record of 13-6.

The Wonder Boys will be the No. 4 seed from the GSC West Division at the GSC Baseball Tournament, which is scheduled for May 6-10 at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn.

Arkansas Tech will face nationally top-ranked West Florida, champion of the GSC East Division, in the first round of the double elimination tournament at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, May 6.

River Valley Radio (KCAB 980 AM/KWKK 100.9 FM/KVLD 99.3 FM) will provide play-by-play coverage of the Wonder Boys’ games from the GSC Tournament.
