Second-Half Run Lifts Wonder Boys

Nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech used a 24-8 run early in the second half to take command and march on to a 74-65 victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers at Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Thursday night.

The Wonder Boys (17-0 overall, 4-0 Gulf South Conference) trailed 33-29 with 17:07 to go. That was when Willie Sanders entered the game for Tech, and he forced four turnovers in rapid succession to spark the Wonder Boys’ decisive run.

By the time it was over, Tech held a 53-41 edge with 11:34 left. The Wonder Boys maintained at least a seven-point lead the rest of the way as they extended their longest winning streak since 1955.

Laithe Massey led Tech with 17 points. Brandon Friedel netted 13 points and Sanders had 10 points for the Wonder Boys.

Scott Day led OBU (4-13, 0-4) with 17 points.

The Wonder Boys will take on the Delta State Statesmen at 6 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. Admission will be free with a valid Tech identification card. Gates will open at 3 p.m.
