Late Drury Run Sinks Wonder Boys

Drury University held Arkansas Tech without a made field goal for the final 9:04 and the Panthers knocked off the nationally 13th-ranked Wonder Boys 87-72 at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday night.

James Causey made a 3-pointer to give Arkansas Tech a 67-64 lead with 9:04 remaining, but that proved to be the Wonder Boys’ last make from the field.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Brandon Lockhart and Alex Hall gave Drury a 70-67 lead with 7:53 left. Those baskets sparked a game-ending 23-5 run by the Panthers as they avenged a 68-63 loss at Arkansas Tech last season.

Hall scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Drury (2-0). Lockhart added 22 points.

Jared Williamson led the Wonder Boys (1-1) with 25 points. Tech’s James Causey had 13 points. Laithe Massey notched 11 points and eight assists.

Drury held a 42-28 rebounding edge and shot 53 percent (25-of-47) from the field. The Panthers also hit 31-of-40 (78 percent) at the free throw line.

Arkansas Tech was just 5-of-26 (19 percent) from 3-point range.

The Wonder Boys will host Lambuth University for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Saturday, Nov. 20.
