Whitmore Named GAC Player of the Week

Arkansas Tech wide receiver A.J. Whitmore was named Great American Conference special teams player of the week by the league office on Monday, Sept. 19.

Whitmore, a senior from Nashville, earned the GAC weekly award by amassing 277 all-purpose yards during the Wonder Boys’ 47-32 loss to nationally 10th-ranked Delta State on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Included in Whitmore’s big night was a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 6:54 left in the first quarter. It tied the 10th-longest kickoff return in Arkansas Tech history and was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Wonder Boy since 2009.

Whitmore returned four kickoffs for a total of 172 yards and caught eight passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns against Delta State.

For the season, Whitmore leads the GAC in all-purpose yardage (177.0 yards per game).

Arkansas Tech will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it hosts West Alabama for a 6 p.m. non-conference game at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field in Russellville.
