Tech Connect 2011

Tech Connect 2011 will provide hundreds of incoming students with opportunities to make new friends and get acclimated to Arkansas Tech, as the theme is “Make Your Move!”

The Tech Orientation Team will sponsor various activities throughout the week to ease the transition from high school to college.

Once entering freshmen move into their assigned residence halls Saturday morning, students and their families can take advantage of a welcome lunch in Chambers Cafeteria. Organizers say Arkansas Tech staff members will be on hand to visit with students and their parents during the luncheon.

At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Witherspoon Auditorium, the Office of Parent Relations will visit with parents about ways to stay connected to Arkansas Tech and ways to help their student succeed.

Saturday afternoon, students will begin meeting with their resident assistants in the residence halls to learn more about Arkansas Tech and ways to get connected to campus.

At 8 p.m. on Saturday, students will gather in Tucker Coliseum for Playfair, the ultimate ice breaker, followed by Tech the Night Away in the Doc Bryan Student Services Building.

On Sunday, freshmen can enjoy the Splish Splash Bash at 2 p.m. on the Caraway and Crabaugh lawn, mentalist Joshua Smith at 7 p.m. at Tucker Coliseum, and Arkansas Tech’s version of the Price is Right at 9 p.m. in Witherspoon Auditorium.

Monday, August 22, the Class of 2015 will gather for a class photo and will then attend the academic welcome at Tucker Coliseum.

On Monday at 2 p.m., freshmen from each residence hall will compete for bragging rights in several wacky games in hopes of being crowned the champs of “Crazy Hall Crawl.”

At 8 p.m. in the Doc Bryan Lecture Hall, Let’s Make a Deal will offer students cash and prizes as they compete and cheer on their new friends in an annual game show hosted by Student Government Association.

Tuesday, students will be able to get a closer look at student organizations and activities at the Student Involvement Fair at 11 a.m. outside Chambers Cafeteria, followed by an afternoon matinée at 2 p.m. in the Doc Bryan Lecture Hall.

Tuesday evening, the Tech community will get a sneak peek at the football team at a scrimmage, following a back to school pep rally to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Thone Stadium.

At 8 p.m. students will be able to take part in several recreational games including flag football, disc golf and ultimate frisbee.  The event is hosted by Intramural and Recreational Sports and will take place at the Arkansas Tech Intramural Field.

Classes for the fall 2011 semester began at 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 24.
