Abilene Christian earned a split in its four-game weekend series with Arkansas Tech by defeating the Wonder Boys 15-11 at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas, on Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats (2-2) raced out to an 8-1 lead after three innings, but Arkansas Tech rallied for seven runs in the top of the fourth to tie the score. Landon Sullins’ three-run home run was the biggest blow during the Wonder Boys’ rally.
The tie was short-lived. A walk and two hit batsmen set the stage for three Abilene Christian runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats led 11-8 and they maintained the lead the rest of the afternoon.
Sullins (photographed) was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the loss. Madison Beaird and Thomas Biocic added two hits apiece for the Wonder Boys (2-2).
Cody Hatman (0-1) took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits in six innings of relief work.
ACU’s Brent Bray (1-0) picked up the win by pitching one and two-thirds innings in relief.
Tyler Eager led the Wildcats’ attack by going 4-for-6 with four runs batted in.
Arkansas Tech will return on action on Saturday, Feb. 11, when it faces fellow Great American Conference member University of Arkansas at Monticello for a game that will not count in the league standings.
First pitch for the non-conference, neutral-site game is set for 11 a.m. in Magnolia.
