WBCA Ranks Golden Suns No. 1

The national spotlight is once again shining brightly on the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball program, which is ranked No. 1 in the 2010-11 USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II preseason top 25 poll by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

It is the second 2010-11 No. 1 national preseason ranking for the Golden Suns, who were similarly honored by basketball publication Division II Bulletin in October.

Arkansas Tech was 31-3 overall, co-champion of the Gulf South Conference West Division, champion of the GSC Tournament and champion of the NCAA Division II South Region in 2009-10.

The Golden Suns return four starters, including All-American Jenny Vining and All-South Region selection Natalia Santos (photographed), from that team.

A total of 10 letter winners from 2009-10 are back for Tech’s women in 2010-11.

Nationally top-ranked Arkansas Tech will begin its 2010-11 women’s basketball season by hosting St. Gregory’s for a 2 p.m. game at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville on Sunday, Nov. 14.
