Watch Live Video of Turf Installation

A new playing surface is being installed at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field, and curious Arkansas Tech University fans can now get a look at the process through live video streaming.

Go to Arkansas Tech’s athletics Web site (http://athletics.atu.edu/) and click on “LIVE VIDEO” to catch a bird’s eye view of the Sprinturf synthetic surface being installed.

The stream will run continuously throughout the installation project and the new playing surface will make its debut in the Wonder Boys’ Sept. 1 football season opener against Bacone College (Okla.).

As of the morning of Tuesday, July 10, crews were leveling out the foundation for the new playing surface and the first section of gold turf that will help make the north end zone was stretched out in front of the goalpost.

The Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees approved the installation of a new synthetic turf surface during its April meeting, and trustees voted to award the contract for the project to Sprinturf of Atlanta, Ga., during their May meeting.

Once complete, the new synthetic surface at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field will also provide a weather-resistant outdoor practice surface for Arkansas Tech’s other athletic programs as well as the band, cheer and dance teams.

A separate project is underway on the north end of campus near the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex that will provide the Arkansas Tech Marching Band, “Arkansas’ Band of Distinction,” with a practice facility for daily use during marching season.
