Volleyball Suns Win Season Opener

Laura Farney recorded a double-double of 20 kills and 20 digs to lead the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to a 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-10 season-opening victory over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Friday at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Classic in Denton, Texas.

The Golden Suns held the Dustdevils to an .051 hitting percentage and Tech recorded 12 service aces against only three service errors.

Sarah Von Lienen had 14 kills and three blocks, while Kera Dukic made 44 assists for the Suns. Thabata Galvao (14 digs) and Brennae Benda (10 digs) contributed to a defensive effort that saw Tech finish with a 66-60 edge in digs.

Later on Friday, Texas Woman’s University rallied from behind to defeat the Golden Suns 23-25, 10-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-12.

Arkansas Tech (1-1) will face East Stroudsburg and Northwest Nazarene during further action at the classic on Saturday.
