Vining Shines in Golden Suns' Win

Jenny Vining made a school-record nine 3-pointers and scored a career-high 35 points to lead the nationally 24th-ranked Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to a 75-66 win over the North Alabama Lions at Flowers Hall in Florence, Ala., on Saturday afternoon.

Vining was 12-of-22 from the field and 9-of-18 from 3-point range. Her 35 points were the most in a game by a Golden Sun since Dec. 4, 2008, when Amanda Grappe scored 36 points against Mid-America Christian.

Tech (9-0) trailed at halftime for the first time this season on Saturday. North Alabama scored the last seven points of the first half and held a 42-35 edge at halftimie.

The Golden Suns rallied with a 16-0 run to take a 64-51 lead with 6:37 to go. Tech held North Alabama without a made field goal for a span of 7:39 midway through the second half.

The Suns maintained at least an eight-point lead the rest of the way to earn their ninth straight win.

Katie Horsman added 13 points and Natalia Santos had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Arkansas Tech.

Niala Harris led North Alabama (4-8) with 18 points.

The Suns will face another road test on Monday when they take on Alabama-Huntsville at 5:30 p.m. Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM will have the broadcast, which will be streamed over the Internet at www.athletics.atu.edu.
