Veterans Celebrated at Tech Football Game

Military appreciation was the theme on Saturday, Nov. 7, when Arkansas Tech University recognized service members and veterans before the Wonder Boys’ home football game against Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Staff Sgt. Joe Caldwell of the U.S. Marines delivered the game ball by parachuting into Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field from 4,000 feet above.

Members of MOAA, VFW, VFW Riders Group, DAV, Marine Corps League, American Legion and the Patriot Riders Group were among those on the field during the presentation of colors and national anthem, as performed by the Arkansas Tech marching band.

Among those who made the event possible are: Dr. Robin E. Bowen, Arkansas Tech president; Dr. Rick Massengale, associate vice president for university initiatives and professor of computer and information science at Arkansas Tech; Marsha Oels, coordinator of veteran services at Arkansas Tech; Staff Sgt. Vance Morris, president of the Service Members and veterans of America registered student organization at Arkansas Tech.
