High school students from several area schools are at Arkansas Tech University for the annual Upward Bound Summer program. The program is designed to help students prepare for the upcoming academic year, and students from the following high schools are participating in the program at Tech:

  • Atkins High School
  • Danville High School
  • Dardanelle High School
  • Dover High School
  • Hector High School
  • Lamar High School
  • Pottsville High School
  • Two Rivers High School

During the summer program, the students live in the residence halls and are taught by a team of university personnel in a variety of subjects including math, science, English and other elective areas. Additionally, the students have the opportunity to utilize campus technology to develop computer skills and review skills needed for the ACT exam. At the conclusion of the summer session, the students will take part in a cultural trip to Chicago. The Upward Bound program is under the umbrella of TRIO, a federal initiative created in 1965 to overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. Arkansas Tech has been approved to administer the program through 2017. The summer program will conclude on Thursday, July 2. Learn more about Upward Bound at Arkansas Tech.
