#ATUWelcome Schedule Announced

Arkansas Tech University has announced the Go Bold Welcome Week schedule for the 2016-17 academic year.

The week of activities is designed to engage, inform and entertain incoming and returning students.

Students are encouraged to share their Welcome Week experiences using the hashtag #atuwelcome.

Below is a list of events. For more information, contact the Office of Campus Life at (479) 968-0276.

Saturday, Aug. 20

Residence Hall New Student Move-In

  • 7:00, 8:00, 9:30 or 11:00 a.m., Residence Halls
  • Review your assignment notification for assigned time

Orientation Check-In/Parent and Family Check-In

  • 8 a.m.-2 p.m., W.O. Young Ballroom
  • New students will receive orientation information
  • Parents and family members will learn about services offered by the Office of Student Success

Lunch

  • 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria
  • Family lunch special is $6.25 per person
  • Students with a meal plan may use swipes

Last Minute Goodbyes

  • 3 p.m., Residence Halls

Mandatory Floor Meetings

  • 3:30-5 p.m., Residence Halls
  • Students learn about building and role in residence halls

Dinner

  • 5-7 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria

Building Social

  • 7-7:45 p.m., Residence Halls
  • Dessert will be served in the lobby or courtyard of each hall for new students, residence life staff members and orientation leaders.

Playfair

  • 8 p.m., Tucker Coliseum
  • Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to meet new friends at this energetic event

Tech the Night Away

  • 9:30 p.m.-Midnight, Tucker Coliseum / Doc Bryan parking lots
  • Funnel cakes, roasted corn, fried Oreos, a photo booth and inflatable games

Sunday, Aug. 21

Battle of the Halls: Clash of the Colors

  • 1-3 p.m., Hindsman Tower
  • Compete to prove your residence hall is the best
  • Winning hall gets front row seats to the hypnotist

Dinner

  • 5-7 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria

Mandatory Floor Meetings

  • 7 and 9 p.m., Residence Halls

Hypnotist

  • 8 and 10 p.m., Witherspoon Auditorium
  • Spidey, master hypnotist, will entertain and call up participants from audience
  • Check with your resident assistant on what time you attend

Monday, Aug. 22

New Student Orientation

  • 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Transfer Student Orientation

  • 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Involvement Fair

  • 6-8 p.m., Hindsman Tower
  • Learn about campus organizations and community entities
  • Enjoy free food and a chance to win more than $2,500 in prizes

Outdoor Movie

  • Central Intelligence
  • 9:30-11:30 p.m., Crabaugh Hall Lawn
  • Drinks and popcorn provided
  • Bring a blanket for seating

Tuesday, Aug. 23

New Student Orientation

  • 8 a.m.-Noon

Transfer Student Orientation

  • 9 a.m.-Noon

Norman Career Services Open House

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Doc Bryan Suite 229
  • Learn about career services opportunities and services available
  • Have your photo drawn by a caricature artist and register for prizes

Student Employment Fair

  • 3-4 p.m., Chambers Cafeteria West Dining Hall
  • Meet with multiple campus employers and learn about work opportunities available
  • Bring your Tech ID to take part

Dinner and Pep Rally

  • 5:30-6 p.m., Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field
  • Learn the cheers, songs and traditions that will make you a true Wonder Boy or Golden Sun

Green and Gold Football Scrimmage

  • 6 p.m., Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field
  • Get a first look at the 2016 Wonder Boys as they prepare for their season

Wednesday, Aug. 24

T-Shirt Trade

  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Baswell Techionery
  • Trade a gently worn shirt from a high school or another university for a Tech T-shirt
  • Shirts may be purchased for $1
  • All clothing and funds are donated to a local charity
  • Bring your Tech ID to take part

RSO Event Night

  • 5-8 p.m., Various Locations
  • Learn more about how to join and be active in registered student organizations

Watermelon Fest

  • 8-10 p.m., Campus Recreation Fields
  • Highlights include the fifth annual seed spitting competition, along with flag football, disc golf and more

Thursday, Aug. 25

Meet the Greeks

  • 6:30-8 p.m., Hindsman Tower
  • Learn about fraternities and sororities at Arkansas Tech

Friday, Aug. 26

Tech IN Kickoff Event

  • 5-8 p.m., Doc Bryan Courtyard
  • Learn more about diversity and inclusion at Arkansas Tech during event filled with food, fellowship, dancing and prizes

Black Light Party

  • 9 p.m.-Midnight, W.O. Young Ballroom
  • First 500 students will get a free T-shirt

Saturday, Aug. 27

Day at the Lake

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Lake Dardanelle
  • Swimming, sand volleyball and food available
  • Event is at 100 State Park Drive, Russellville, AR

Fight On Music Festival

  • 8 p.m., Tucker Coliseum
  • Enjoy a concert with Nico & Vinz
  • Admission is free with a valid Tech ID
  • Each Tech student is permitted to bring two non-university guests to concert
