Two Wonder Boys Named All-GSC in Golf

Arkansas Tech’s Jonathon Spikes and Ryan Hitt both earned a spot on the 2009-10 All-Gulf South Conference men’s golf team, which was announced by the league office in Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday.

Spikes (photographed, top right), a senior from Danville, has a 73.5 scoring average in 2009-10. He has four top-10 finishes so far this year and he earned a share of 12th at the GSC Tournament in Hot Springs earlier this week.

This is the second All-GSC honor for Spikes, who was also all-conference as a freshman in 2007.

Hitt (photographed, bottom right), a senior from Allen, Texas, has a 74.1 scoring average this year. He also has four top-10 finishes in 2009-10. Hitt finished in a tie for 25th at the GSC Tournament.

This is Hitt’s first All-GSC nod.

The Wonder Boys took fourth place in the final team standings at the GSC Tournament.

Arkansas Tech is hopeful of earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Men’s South/Southeast Super Regional, which is scheduled for May 3-5 at the Wilson Country Club in Wilson, N.C.

The announcement of which 10 teams from the NCAA Division II South Region will advance to that competition is scheduled for Friday, April 23.

Arkansas Tech is seeking its seventh NCAA regional bid in men’s golf since making the move from NAIA to NCAA Division II status during the 1995-96 academic year.

The Wonder Boys are coached by Dave Falconer.
