Two Weeks, Two Awards for Tech Baseball

A member of the Arkansas Tech baseball team has received a weekly award from the Gulf South Conference in both of the first two weeks of the 2011 season.

First, it was Caleb Powers earning GSC West Division pitcher of the week honors on Feb. 15 after he pitched seven no-hit innings in a 6-2 Tech victory over Hendrix College.

Powers is a right-handed senior from Dover.

Then, Colt Loehrs (photographed) was named GSC West Division player of the week on Feb. 22.

Loehrs hit .483 for the week with three home runs and eight runs batted in, including a walk-off home run that gave the Wonder Boys a 10-9 victory over defending NCAA Division II national champion Southern Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Loehrs is a right-handed senior outfielder from Arkansas City, Kan.

The Wonder Boys (5-4) will return to action on Friday, Feb. 25, with a neutral site doubleheader against New Mexico Highlands. The twin bill will be played in Emporia, Kan.
