Turner Turtles Win Chariot Race

The WonderWeek 2012 Committee has announced the winners of the first ever Olympiad Chariot Race. The race was held Thursday afternoon on the track at Buerkle Field.

Crossing the finish line first was the Turner Turtles team at 14.3 seconds. They received a $100 Walmart gift card.

Closely following was the Alpha Tau Omega team. They finished at 16.1 seconds and received a $50 gift card.

The third place team was Delta Zeta and they received a $20 gift card. Their time was 18.3 seconds.

The chariots were man-powered by the team members and carried at least one team member. Organizations were creative in making their chariots with wagons, wood, old lawn mower parts and more.

Students competed in a variety of other games following the chariot race, including a three-legged race and an egg toss.

Officials say students especially enjoyed a balloon game, in which everyone had a balloon tied to their leg. The goal of the game was to pop the balloons on other people without popping your own.

Lyndi Mabry, one of the event organizers, said the event was a success and they hope to host The Olympiad again next year.
