Thompson Named GAC Player of the Week

Arkansas Tech University running back Kristian Thompson was named Great American Conference offensive player of the week on Monday, Oct. 26.

A freshman from Dardanelle, Thompson carried 17 times for 105 yards and four touchdowns in the Wonder Boys’ 57-37 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Saturday.

With the win, the Wonder Boys (6-2) remained one game out of first place in the GAC standings with three weeks remaining in the 2015 season. They also clinched their first winning season since 2009.

Arkansas Tech rolled up 388 rushing yards against Southeastern Oklahoma State. It was the sixth-highest single-game rushing total in Tech football history.

Thompson established new personal single-game career highs in rushing yardage and touchdowns scored.

Before this season, no Wonder Boy had recorded four rushing touchdowns in a game since 2007. That feat has been accomplished twice this season, first by quarterback Arsenio Favor on Sept. 26 against Southern Arkansas University and then by Thompson on Saturday.

Thompson’s award marks the fifth time in 2015 that an Arkansas Tech football student-athlete has received GAC player of the week accolades. Favor has been so honored on two occasions this season, while linebacker Nick Akins and running back Bryan Allen have collected one GAC player of the week award apiece.

The Wonder Boys will play their final road game of the 2015 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31, when they take on Northwestern Oklahoma State University for a 2 p.m. GAC contest in Alva, Okla. Radio station KCJC 102.3 FM and www.arkansastechsports.com will have the play-by-play description.
