The Rematch Is On: Suns to Face HU in Final

Arkansas Tech University earned the right to play for its second consecutive Great American Conference Volleyball Tournament championship with a 3-0 semifinal round win over Southern Arkansas University on Friday.

Arkansas Tech University earned the right to play for its second consecutive Great American Conference Volleyball Tournament championship with a 3-0 semifinal round win over Southern Arkansas University on Friday.

The Golden Suns (27-9) will face their arch volleyball rival — tournament host Harding University (27-6) — at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 17) at Rhodes Field House in Searcy.

Arkansas Tech defeated Harding in five sets to win the 2011 GAC Volleyball Tournament title at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. The Lady Bisons are 2-0 against the Golden Suns so far in 2012 and Harding enters the final on a 13-match winning streak.

Arkansas Tech reached the final with a 25-19, 25-20, 28-26 victory over the SAU Lady Muleriders.

Kaitlyn White (18 kills and 10 digs) and Amber Cerrillos (40 assists, 10 digs) both recorded a double-double for the Golden Suns. Tech’s Sara Motsinger added 13 kills, Morgan McKellar made 18 digs, Kaci Jackson notched 10 digs and Brittany Ryan had six blocks.

Southern Arkansas finished its 2012 volleyball season with an overall record of 23-12.
