The Last Unbeaten: Wonder Boys Stay at No. 1

Arkansas Tech, the only undefeated team in NCAA Division II men’s basketball, remained at No. 1 in this week’s National Association of Basketball Coaches D-II men’s basketball top 25 poll.

Head coach Mark Downey (photographed) and the Wonder Boys (23-0 overall, 10-0 Gulf South Conference) are No. 1 in the country for a fifth consecutive week.

Arkansas Tech received all eight first-place votes to stay in front of No. 2 Southern Indiana, which is likely to fall from that perch next week after it suffered an 86-68 loss to sixth-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan on Monday night.

Tech and Southern Indiana were the last two unbeatens in D-II men’s basketball. Now the Wonder Boys stand alone.

Arkansas Tech also stands alone at the top of the GSC West Division standings. The Wonder Boys took a two-game lead in the GSC West over Delta State on Saturday when Tech defeated Harding 95-64 and DSU suffered a 68-55 loss at Christian Brothers.

No. 1 Tech will host Ouachita Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission to Tucker Coliseum will be free for those with a valid Tech identification card. The ticket office and the doors to the coliseum will open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Wonder Boys will visit Delta State for a 6 p.m. contest at Walter Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, Miss., on Saturday.

Russellville radio station KWKK 100.9 FM and www.athletics.atu.edu will have live play-by-play coverage of both games.
