Tennis, Golf Programs Collect GAC Awards

Arkansas Tech University coaches and student-athletes in men’s golf, women’s golf and tennis were recognized by the Great American Conference in recent days for their achievements during the 2016-17 academic year.

The awards were based upon a vote of league head coaches in each sport.

ATU swept the league’s coach of the year awards in golf. Luke Calcatera was voted GAC men’s golf coach of the year, and Amy Anderson was chosen as GAC women’s golf coach of the year.

Three Wonder Boys — Luke Cornett, Austin Smith and Ryan Spurlock — earned a place on the All-GAC men’s golf teams. Cornett and Smith were All-GAC first team selections, while Spurlock was named All-GAC honorable mentionĀ and was picked as GAC men’s golf freshman of the year.

They both received All-GAC first team honors, while Tech’s Caroline Fredensborg and Jessica Sachs were voted All-GAC second team and Avery Struck collected an All-GAC honorable mention award.

Fredensborg was also recognized as a Crafton Tull Elite Scholar Athlete.
