Dr. Jan Kallberg, assistant professor of emergency management and homeland security at Arkansas Tech University, participated in a panel discussion at a recent international conference concerning terrorism.

The conference was hosted by Uppsala University in Sweden Sept. 24-26. Discussions centered on the terrorism threats posed by both individuals acting alone and by autonomous terrorism cells.

Kallberg (photographed) participated in a panel discussion that addressed ways that authorities can use the Internet to counteract individuals who seek to carry out acts of terrorism by operating alone.

He co-authored a paper on the topic entitled “Reducing the Potential Perpetrator Perceived Opportunity by Injecting Fear of Failure” that is scheduled for publication later this year.

A new addition to the Arkansas Tech faculty in fall 2012, Kallberg teaches courses in the areas of research design, homeland security, intelligence, governmental policy and contemporary issues in public safety and national security.
