Tech Wins First-Ever GAC Volleyball Match

Arkansas Tech began its Great American Conference era in volleyball with a four-set victory over the Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers at the Sturgis Physical Education Center in Arkadelphia on Tuesday.

The Golden Suns (8-1 overall, 1-0 GAC) defeated OBU 25-14, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18 to extend their winning streak to eight consecutive matches.

Sara Motsinger led Tech with 18 kills. Laura Farney (photographed) made 19 digs, Brennae Benda added 15 digs, Amber Cerrillos contributed 41 assists and Thabata Galvao notched six blocks in the win.

Kristyn Howk had six kills and 11 digs for Ouachita Baptist (6-5, 0-1).

Arkansas Tech will play its first home GAC match on Thursday, Sept. 15, when it hosts the Henderson State Lady Reddies for a 7 p.m. match at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. Admission will be free.
