Tech, UESTZI Sign Agreement

International students from China seeking to study abroad will now have additional educational opportunities in the fields of hospitality administration and emergency management thanks to an agreement signed by Arkansas Tech University and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute.

Arkansas Tech President Dr. Robert C. Brown (photographed, left) and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute President Dr. Ma Zheng (photographed, right) signed the agreement at the Ross Pendergraft Library and Technology Center in Russellville Friday morning. Vice Director of International Programs Shi Lei also represented the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute at the meeting.

Other Arkansas Tech officials on hand Tuesday to welcome the delegation to campus included Dr. John W. Watson, vice president for academic affairs; Dr. William Hoefler, dean of the College of Applied Sciences; Dr. Cathi McMahan, interim head of the Arkansas Tech Department of Parks; Amy Pennington, director of International and Multicultural Student Services; and Yasushi Onodera, assistant director of International and Multicultural Student Services for Admissions.

Under the new agreement, the two universities will work together to establish joint degree programs in the field of hospitality administration and in the field of emergency management.

The memorandum states that the intent of the agreement is to “promote international educational goodwill and provide streamlined opportunity for University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute students who wish to study abroad.”
