Tech Teams Enter March Nationally-Ranked

Arkansas Tech continues to boast the top overall basketball program in NCAA Division II with the No. 2 women’s team and the No. 13 men’s team in the country.

The Golden Suns (24-2) moved up two positions from No. 4 to No. 2 in the latest USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25 poll, which was released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys (22-4) fell four spots from No. 9 to No. 13 in the final regular season National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II men’s basketball top 25 poll, which was also released on Tuesday.

Arkansas Tech has the highest average national ranking among all 275 NCAA Division II institutions that sponsor both men’s and women’s basketball.

The only other schools that are ranked in both the men’s and women’s D-II top 25 polls this week are Tarleton State University of Texas (Women No. 18, Men No. 15) and Bentley College of Massachusetts (Women No. 17, Men No. 22).

This is the 27th consecutive week that Arkansas Tech has been ranked in the USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division II women’s basketball top 25. The Golden Suns have been inside the top 10 of that poll for 23 straight weeks.

Arkansas Tech has been included in 24 of the last 29 NABC NCAA Division II men’s basketball top 25 polls.

Arkansas Tech will begin the postseason this weekend by participating in the Gulf South Conference Tournament at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Miss.

The Golden Suns will face West Georgia (9-17) in the first round of the women’s tournament at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 3.

The Wonder Boys will take on North Alabama (13-15) in the first round of the men’s tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

Arkansas Tech swept the 2010 GSC Tournament titles. The Wonder Boys are going for their third consecutive GSC Tournament crown.

The GSC Tournament games can be heard in the Arkansas River Valley on KWKK 100.9 FM.
