Tech Students to Receive Flu Shots on Oct. 5

The Arkansas Tech University Health and Wellness Center has announced that it will host a free flu shot clinic for Arkansas Tech University students.

The clinic will begin at noon on Tuesday, October 5, and will run through 2 p.m.  Students wishing to receive the free vaccination will be able to stop by Room 242 of the Doc Bryan Student Services Building during that time to receive a shot.

Following the clinic, students wishing to receive a shot will also be able to make an appointment by calling the Health and Wellness Center at 479-968-0329. The Arkansas Tech Health and Wellness Center is located in Dean Hall 126.

Beginning on Monday, October 18, Arkansas Tech faculty and staff will be able to receive a flu shot.  Interested faculty and staff members must first pay a $10 charge at the student accounts office inside the Doc Bryan Student Services Building before making their appointments.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates each year in the United States 5% to 20% of the population gets the flu, and the CDC says a flu shot is one of the best ways to protect against the flu.  Read additional CDC suggestions to protect against the flu.

According to the CDC, the “flu vaccine protects against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season,” and this year’s flu vaccine protects against three new strains of the flu.
