Tech Students to Celebrate Homecoming

theLink. On Tuesday, October 22, the Residence Hall Association will host its annual Tech Idol competition. During the competition, 12 Tech students will compete for the Tech Idol title and a cash prize. The competition begins at 9 p.m. in the Witherspoon Building Auditorium. Learn more about Tech Idol. Party at the Tower is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23. The event begins at 5 p.m. at Hindsman Tower and will include food, games, music, give-a-ways and a zip-line. The event is free for students with a valid Arkansas Tech Identification Card. Residence Hall Association will host the Tech Idol finals on Thursday, October 24. The second phase of competition begins at the Witherspoon Building Auditorium at 9 p.m. The semifinalists will be announced, and a winner will be selected during the event. Several homecoming events will take place Friday, October 25.  The festivities begin at 5 p.m. when student organizations must turn in the spirit signs for the competition. The completed signs will be judged at Centennial Plaza. At 7:30 p.m., the university will host the homecoming parade. The parade will travel down Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North El Paso Avenue. The parade will feature a variety of campus groups including the Tech Spirit Squads, the marching band and several floats. Following the parade, Sigma Pi Fraternity will host a haunted house in the McEver Basement at 8:30 p.m. Tickets to attend the event are $3 for Tech students, and the first 200 students will be admitted at no cost. At 9 p.m. Friday evening, the Student Activities Board will host an outdoor movie at Hindsman Tower. Students attending the movie will enjoy free snacks, compliments of the Student Activities Board. Saturday, October 26, Arkansas Tech University students will be able to take part in tailgating during Party at the Plaza. The festivities begin at noon at Centennial Plaza, and participants will be able to enjoy free music and inflatable games. A pre-game tailgate meal will also be available. At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Arkansas Tech University will announce the 2013 Homecoming Queen during the pre-game ceremonies.
