Tech Students Learn About Down Syndrome

Arkansas Tech University students recently learned about interacting with those individuals who have Down syndrome.

Dr. James Hunt of the Arkansas Down Syndrome Association spoke with students in Dr. Jason Ulsperger’s course on social deviance.

During the guest lecture, the students learned about the medical dynamics of the condition and several of the misconceptions and social stigmas that accompany the condition.

“When you consider the lives of people impacted by Down syndrome, you see that they are like the rest of us in many ways,” said Dr. Hunt.

The Arkansas Down Syndrome Association works to promote the health and well-being of people with Down syndrome, while providing resources and networking opportunities to families and caregivers.
