Tech Students Donate Items to Area Agency on Aging

Arkansas Tech University students helped make the holidays brighter for elderly individuals in the River Valley.

Dr. Jason Ulsperger, associate professor of sociology, oversaw a commodity drive for students in his sociology classes.

The classes, along with members of Arkansas Tech’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, collected more than 1000 hygiene items for the Area Agency on Aging senior companion program.

The program matches volunteers with elderly in the community, and the items contributed will be distributed to those in need.

Alpha Kappa Delta President Jericho McElroy (photographed right) helped deliver the items to Area Agency on Aging representative Lynn Russell (photographed left).

Ulsperger said he is proud of the Tech community for its willingness to give back.

“We are fortunate the Tech family recognizes the importance of helping the less fortunate,” said Ulsperger. “The generosity of students and faculty members really makes a difference in the community.”
