Tech to Vie for College Bass Championship

Students Roy Roberts and Cody Kelly will represent the Arkansas Tech University Fishing Club in the 2010 College Bass National Championship, which will be contested on the Arkansas River beginning Thursday.

More than 60 universities and colleges are scheduled to compete in the sixth annual event. Teams will launch from the North Little Rock Riverfront ramp at daybreak on Thursday and Friday, with the top five teams surviving the cut to fish again on Saturday morning.

The College Bass national champion will be crowned on Saturday afternoon. North Carolina State is the defending champion.

Daily weigh-ins will be held at 3 p.m. at Academy Sports and Outdoors at 6100 Warden Road in Sherwood. Video of the weigh-ins is scheduled to be streamed live at www.collegebass.com.

Film crews from ESPNU will be on hand to document the championship, which will award more than $14,000 in scholarships and prizes to its participants.

ESPNU will air footage from the College Bass National Championship at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31.
