Tech Places Three in Top 20 at GSC Meet

Three Arkansas Tech Golden Suns — Cheryl Nolan, Michelle Pollreis and Kaitlin Bounds — earned All-Gulf South Conference cross country honors during the 2010 GSC Championships in Hoover, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 6.

Nolan (photographed, top right), a freshman from Carlow, Ireland, was the Golden Suns’ top finisher. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 47.08 seconds to finish 10th and earn a spot on the All-GSC first team.

Pollreis (photographed, middle right) was on Nolan’s heels with a time of 19:50.48. A senior from Gravette, Pollreis finished 11th and became the second member of her family to earn All-GSC cross country honors at Arkansas Tech. Her sister, Melissa Pollreis, was All-GSC in 2008 and 2009.

Bounds (photographed, bottom right) completed Arkansas Tech’s All-GSC trio. The freshman from Russellville ran the course in 19:59.05 to finish 17th and join Pollreis on the 2010 All-GSC second team.

Ashley Perisho (32nd, 20:55.39), Bailee Miller (36th, 21:03.70), Amanda Bradbury (43rd, 21:25.84) and Lauren Karnitz (45th, 21:29.46) also represented Arkansas Tech in the GSC Championships.

The Golden Suns finished fourth among a 14-team field. Arkansas Tech accumulated 106 points to finish behind GSC champion Alabama-Huntsville (52 points), runner-up Harding (68 points) and third-place West Florida (87 points).

Delta State (5th, 119 points), West Alabama (6th, 145 points), Christian Brothers (7th, 206 points), West Georgia (8th, 207 points), Valdosta State (9th, 238 points), North Alabama (10th, 308 points), Henderson State (11th, 311 points), Ouachita Baptist (12th, 332 points), Arkansas-Monticello (13th, 362 points) and Southern Arkansas (14th, 415 points) rounded out the field.

Alabama-Huntsville’s Jennifer Cherono won the individual championship with a time of 18:45.81.

Arkansas Tech’s cross country team will next compete in the NCAA Division II South Region Meet on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Huntsville, Ala.
