Tech Opens GAC Basketball Play Thursday

The Golden Suns feature reigning GAC women’s basketball player of the week Fatima Adams. The junior forward from Bryan, Texas, averaged 26.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game last week while leading the Golden Suns to road wins over the University of North Alabama and Oklahoma Christian University. For the season, Adams leads the GAC in scoring (23.4 points per game). She is tied for the conference lead in field goal percentage (60.6 percent) and she ranks third in the league in rebounding (10.0 per game). She also leads the GAC in steals (2.4 per game) and offensive rebounds (4.2 per game). Arkansas Tech has opened women’s basketball conference play with a win in each of the last eight seasons. About the Lady Tigers: Ouachita Baptist has lost two of its last three games. The Lady Tigers dropped an 82-59 decision at Midwestern State University on Saturday. OBU ranks No. 2 in the GAC in 3-point field goals made (8.5 per game) and next-to-last in the conference in turnover margin (-3.83 per game). Garry Crowder is in his 20th season as the head women’s basketball coach at Ouachita Baptist. The Lady Tigers’ 76-74 victory over Southwest Baptist in their season opener on Nov. 14 was Crowder’s 300th win as OBU head coach. The Wonder Boys are 88-15 at Tucker Coliseum since the beginning of the 2007-08 season. Arkansas Tech is led in scoring this season by senior guards Mike Balogun (12.6 points per game) and Clarence Willard (11.2 points per game) as well as junior forward Nick Wayman (10.6 points per game). About the Tigers: Ouachita Baptist familiarized itself with Tucker Coliseum by participating in the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Classic last weekend. The Tigers suffered a 74-70 loss to Southwest Baptist in the opener before knocking off Northeastern State University 99-87 on Saturday.
